I start my second Presidential year with high
hopes for the continued growth and success of The Federation of Crown Green
Bowls. Last year saw me visit as many of our competitions as possible and I
intend to attempt the same for this year. We are extremely fortunate that we
have a dedicated team of organisers who ensure that competitions are run to
the highest standards. Despite the increased cost of participation, a
theme picked up in the January edition of Bowlers World I am still convinced
that the sport of bowls provides value for money. Although considered
irrelevant by the BCGBA the fact that we have over 750 bowlers playing in
Federation matches on a monthly basis surely proves we are doing something
right. We deserve to receive further recognition and you can rest assured
that we will again be knocking at the BCGBA door this year. Whether the door
will open or remain shut is like looking into the crystal ball BUT my own
view is that what Bosman was to Football then the Federation is to the BCGBA.
Soho Square is poles apart from Winnington Park but the principles remain the
same. So enough of Football and Politics and back to
Federation Bowls. As a Board we continually try to meet the needs of our bowling
community and I believe we tick most of the boxes when it comes to our annual
appraisal. We are always prepared to consider any suggestions put forward by
any of our affiliates and would welcome more of the same. Brian Holgate is
always after “News and Views” and with his good relations with Bowlers World
we should try and build our profile further. It just leaves me to
thank our sponsors for their continued support and to wish you all a
successful 2008. Phil |
